TMC to Join Bihar's Voter Rights March in September
TMC leaders rally for voter rights!
Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders Yusuf Pathan and Lalitesh Tripathi will participate in the final phase of the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar on September 1, according to party sources. The yatra, initiated by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on August 17, seeks to address concerns over the alleged suppression of voting rights through the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.
A senior TMC official confirmed to PTI, "Yusuf Pathan and Lalitesh Tripathi will represent AITC in the Patna rally on September 1." The march will conclude with a major procession in Bihar’s capital, highlighting the opposition’s unified stance against electoral discrepancies.
The 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' is a joint effort by the opposition INDIA bloc, which includes both Congress and TMC, to protest what they describe as a deliberate attempt to undermine democratic processes. During a rally in Siwan on Friday, Gandhi accused the Election Commission of facilitating vote manipulation by removing 65 lakh names from Bihar’s draft electoral rolls. Opposition parties argue this deletion unfairly targets marginalized communities, threatening their constitutional right to vote.

The controversy intensified after the Supreme Court intervened, ordering the Election Commission to publish the list of deleted names by August 19 and submit a compliance report by August 22. The EC complied, revealing the scale of the deletions, which opposition leaders claim disproportionately affects opposition-leaning voters.
The yatra has gained momentum across Bihar, with public meetings drawing attention to voter suppression issues. Pathan, a former cricketer-turned-politician, and Tripathi, a seasoned TMC leader, are expected to bolster the campaign’s visibility in its final leg. Their participation underscores TMC’s commitment to the INDIA bloc’s fight for electoral fairness.
