Tight Security for PM Modi’s Navi Mumbai Airport Inauguration Tomorrow
Mumbai Gears Up for PM Modi’s High-Profile Visit, Airport and Metro Launch
Mumbai and Navi Mumbai have transformed into fortresses as authorities ramp up security ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on Wednesday to inaugurate the first phase of the Navi Mumbai International Airport. The high-profile event, coupled with the final phase inauguration of Mumbai Metro Line-3, has prompted an unprecedented deployment of security forces across the twin cities, with police officials confirming a state of high alert.
The Prime Minister’s two-day visit to Maharashtra, starting October 8, will also see him hosting UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Mumbai on Thursday. The presence of two global leaders has triggered a multi-layered security operation, involving local police, the Special Protection Group (SPG), Special Protection Unit (SPU), Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), and traffic police. “We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the safety of both leaders and the public during these high-profile events,” a senior police official stated.
On Wednesday, PM Modi is scheduled to arrive in Navi Mumbai for a walkthrough of the state-of-the-art Navi Mumbai International Airport, a landmark project aimed at easing the load on Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The inauguration ceremony, set for 3:30 PM, will also feature the launch and dedication of various infrastructure projects, followed by a public address. The airport’s first phase is expected to significantly boost connectivity and economic growth in the region.

However, the visit has not been without controversy. The banned organization Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) issued a threat to disrupt Modi’s visit by hoisting the flag of the so-called Khalistan during the Metro inauguration. Authorities have responded by further tightening security measures, with increased surveillance and checkpoints across key locations in both cities to prevent any disruptions.
On Thursday, October 9, Modi will host UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Mumbai for a series of high-level engagements, including the CEO Forum and the 6th edition of the Global Fintech Fest. These events underscore India’s growing global influence in infrastructure and financial technology, with discussions expected to strengthen India-UK bilateral ties.
As Mumbai prepares for these landmark events, the enhanced security measures have led to traffic advisories and restricted zones in parts of the city, with residents urged to cooperate with authorities. The twin inaugurations and diplomatic engagements mark a significant moment for Maharashtra, positioning it as a hub for infrastructure development and international collaboration, while the robust security arrangements reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring a safe and successful visit.
