Tight Security Enforced At LPG Distribution Points Amid Supply Concerns
LPG agencies secured by police amid supply fear and crowd management efforts.
Gas agencies across India have come under tight security scrutiny as authorities grapple with an intensifying LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) crisis that has sparked panic buying, long queues, and fears of black‑market hoarding amid ongoing global energy supply disruptions. Security personnel, including local police forces, have been deployed at gas distribution points to maintain order and prevent unrest as demand for cooking gas surges nationwide.
The heightened security presence comes against a backdrop of supply anxieties linked to global tensions in West Asia, which have disrupted critical maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz — a gateway for a significant share of LPG imports into India. With tensions escalating, residents in cities like New Delhi and Bhopal have faced unusually long queues at LPG agencies, while some online booking systems have malfunctioned under pressure, prompting authorities to ensure smooth distribution on the ground.
In response, police teams have been assigned to patrol gas agencies and monitor crowds, with instructions to step in swiftly if hoarding, black marketing, or disorder threatens public safety. In parts of the capital region, officials fear cylinders are being sold illicitly at inflated prices, prompting stricter vigilance.

The situation has been particularly acute for commercial LPG supplies, which have seen bookings and deliveries restricted or paused in several locations. Hotels, restaurants and small businesses in cities such as Pune and Tirupati have reported disruptions that threaten regular operations, leading to appeals to authorities to safeguard commercial fuel deliveries even as domestic supply is prioritised.
Government advisories have urged state authorities to monitor the LPG supply chain closely, take action against hoarding, and counter misinformation that could fuel panic among consumers. A central LPG control order directs refiners to maximise production and prioritise household cooking gas, with sales to non‑priority commercial users limited to preserve domestic stocks.
Despite official assurances that there is adequate LPG for households, fears linger as extended wait times and anxious booking patterns continue. Vigilance teams and security deployments at gas agencies reflect efforts to maintain order and confidence among consumers while authorities work to stabilise distribution during a period of heightened energy uncertainty.
