Tiger Attack Suspected After Severed Legs Of Man Discovered In Odisha Forest
Severed legs found in Odisha forest, tiger attack suspected.
Severed human remains were discovered inside the Similipal Tiger Reserve in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Monday, triggering speculation of a possible tiger attack, though forest officials have not confirmed the cause of death. The incident came to light after villagers reported the presence of body parts in a bushy area near Kumudabadi under the reserve’s jurisdiction.
According to officials, the deceased has been identified as Sadhu Naik, a resident of Basantpur village under the Jashipur police station limits. He had reportedly gone missing on Sunday, prompting concern among locals and a search operation in the surrounding forest area.
During the search, villagers came across partial human remains, including two severed legs, deep inside the forest. The discovery led to immediate alarm in the region, with some residents alleging that the man may have been killed in a tiger attack, given the reserve’s known big cat population.

Forest authorities, however, have urged caution, stating that there is no conclusive evidence so far to establish the involvement of a wild animal. Officials noted that no pugmarks or other typical field indicators of a predator attack were found at the site where the remains were recovered.
Similipal Tiger Reserve deputy director Ramesh Kumar said preliminary observations had not pointed to any specific cause of death. He added that samples and other material evidence had been collected from the scene and sent for forensic analysis to determine the circumstances scientifically.
An investigation is currently underway, with forest and police teams continuing search operations to trace the remaining body parts and reconstruct the sequence of events. Authorities have also assured that support is being provided to the bereaved family as the inquiry progresses.
