Three Workers Die From Toxic Gas Exposure Inside Delhi Factory Septic Tank
Toxic gas inhalation inside septic tank kills three Delhi factory workers.
Three workers died after allegedly inhaling toxic gas inside a septic tank at a factory in the Mundka industrial area of outer Delhi on Friday afternoon, officials said. The incident occurred in the Jwala Puri area, prompting an emergency response from the Delhi Fire Service and local administration.
According to fire officials, information about workers being trapped inside a septic tank at factory number 93/8 was received at around 12:03 pm. Two fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the spot. However, due to heavy traffic congestion on the route, an additional fire engine was sent via an alternate path through Tikri to speed up the rescue operation.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) officials also reached the site to supervise rescue efforts. Fire personnel and emergency responders worked to retrieve the trapped workers from the septic tank amid hazardous conditions caused by suspected toxic fumes.

Preliminary information suggests that three workers—identified as Arun (38), Sandeep (32) and Chand (42), all residents of Sultanpuri’s Indra Jheel area—entered the septic tank one after another. They reportedly lost consciousness after inhaling toxic gases inside the confined space, raising concerns about safety precautions at the site.
During the rescue operation, fire department personnel managed to pull out all three individuals, but they were declared dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact nature of the gas involved, and further forensic examination is expected to determine the cause.
Police from Mundka station have initiated an investigation to determine whether safety protocols were violated and whether negligence contributed to the deaths. Officials said the inquiry will examine compliance with workplace safety norms and the circumstances that led to workers entering the hazardous confined space without adequate protection.
