Three New Supreme Court Judges Set For Oath in a First Since 1950
Ceremony will be live-streamed, departing from usual 10.30 am schedule.
Three newly appointed judges will take oath of office at the Supreme Court at 3:30 pm on Tuesday, October 6, marking an unprecedented departure from the court’s usual morning swearing-in ceremony. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant will administer the oath to Justice Sunita Agarwal, Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh.
The Supreme Court confirmed the timing through an official communication, stating that the swearing-in ceremony would be live-streamed from 3:30 pm onwards. Judges of the Supreme Court are usually administered the oath at 10:30 am, which is also the time when the court generally assembles on working days for hearings.
The afternoon ceremony is significant as it marks the first time such a change has been made since the Supreme Court was established in 1950. The departure from the established schedule comes as the three judges formally join the country's highest court following their appointments by the Union government.

Justice Sunita Agarwal, Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh were appointed as Supreme Court judges following an order issued by the President of India. Their elevation followed their tenure as Chief Justices of different high courts.
The appointments were also announced by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal in a post on X on Monday. Referring to the constitutional authority exercised by the President, Meghwal said the three Chief Justices had been appointed as judges of the Supreme Court of India.
The three judges will formally assume their responsibilities after taking the oath on Tuesday afternoon. The ceremony will be available through the Supreme Court’s live-streaming platform, allowing the proceedings to be viewed beyond the court premises.
