Three CAPF Personnel Suspended After Video Shows Them Playing Inside TMC Office

EC suspends CAPF personnel over viral carrom video in Siliguri.

The Election Commission (EC) has suspended three Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel after a video reportedly showing them playing carrom inside a Trinamool Congress (TMC) office in Siliguri went viral. A senior EC official confirmed on Sunday that a departmental inquiry has been ordered into the matter.

The purported video, which circulated on Saturday, showed one personnel playing carrom with three local youths, another standing nearby, and a third seated on a chair inside the TMC office. PTI could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.

BJP candidate for the Siliguri Assembly constituency, Jagannath Chatterjee, condemned the incident, calling it “extremely reprehensible and disappointing.” He added that it is unclear how and where the central forces are being deployed, and suggested strict action against any local administration or police involved.

Congress district president Sanjay Adhikari expressed concern as well, noting, “Playing carrom is not a crime, but doing so inside a political party's office is inappropriate.” The comments reflect rising political sensitivities ahead of upcoming elections in the region.

Responding to the controversy, TMC district co-vice president Malay Mukherjee defended the personnel, stating that casual interaction with party members should not be considered a crime. He said the personnel were simply talking and playing carrom while performing their duties.
