Threat of Violence Against Disha Patani's Family Linked to Sister's Social Media Post

Firing linked to Disha's sister Khushboo’s remarks on spiritual leader.

A shooting incident occurred outside the family residence of Bollywood actress Disha Patani in Bareilly’s Civil Lines area early Friday morning. Two unidentified assailants on a motorbike fired multiple rounds, including at least two aerial shots, around 3:30 a.m. at Villa No. 40, where Disha’s father, retired Deputy SP Jagdish Patani, her mother, and elder sister, Khushboo Patani, were present. No injuries were reported, but the incident has sparked alarm due to its alleged connection to a controversial social media dispute.

The attack is linked to comments made by Khushboo Patani criticizing spiritual leader Aniruddhacharya’s remarks on women in live-in relationships, which she called misogynistic in a now-deleted video. A social media post, attributed to the Goldy Brar gang and signed by Virendra Charan and Mahendra Saran, claimed responsibility, alleging the firing was retaliation for Khushboo’s remarks, which they claimed insulted Hindu saints Premanand Ji Maharaj and Aniruddhacharya, as well as Sanatan Dharma. The post warned of further consequences for the film industry if such “disrespect” persists. Police are verifying the post’s authenticity.

Bareilly SSP Anurag Arya confirmed that an FIR has been filed at Kotwali police station, and five investigative teams are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the perpetrators. Armed police have been deployed to ensure the family’s safety. Jagdish Patani, speaking to ANI, stated that 8–10 foreign-made rounds were fired and emphasized that his family respects Hindu saints, calling the linking of Khushboo’s comments to Premanand Ji Maharaj a “conspiracy to demean us.”

Khushboo clarified on Instagram that her remarks targeted only Aniruddhacharya’s statements, not Premanand Ji Maharaj, and decried the misinformation as “unethical and dangerous.” She vowed legal action against defamatory content. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of public figures amid online controversies, with police intensifying efforts to apprehend those responsible.
