Thousands Join CM Stalin to Honour Annadurai on 57th Death Anniversary

Tamil Nadu pays homage to Dravidian icon C.N. Annadurai, celebrating his enduring legacy.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin led the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in paying tribute to party founder and former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai on his 57th death anniversary, as thousands of supporters gathered at the Anna Memorial at Marina Beach on Tuesday. Accompanied by senior party leaders, MLAs, and Cabinet Ministers, Stalin offered floral tributes, recalling Annadurai’s pivotal role in shaping Dravidian politics and championing social reform in Tamil Nadu.

Following the ceremony at Marina, Stalin also visited the memorial of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi at Anna Square to honour the late leader who carried forward Annadurai’s ideological vision. The homage highlighted the continuity of the DMK’s commitment to the principles of social justice, rationalism, and Tamil identity.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister and other ministers led a silent rally along Wallajah Salai and Kamarajar Salai, drawing large crowds of party workers holding Annadurai’s portraits and raising slogans reflecting his enduring influence on the state’s political landscape. Supporters arrived from across Chennai and neighbouring districts to participate in the observance.

In view of the massive turnout, the Greater Chennai Traffic Police imposed temporary traffic restrictions around Marina Beach. Roads including Kamarajar Salai and Wallajah Road were briefly closed to facilitate the movement of dignitaries, with vehicles diverted via alternate routes. Officials assured that traffic resumed promptly after the ceremonies concluded.

Despite the large assembly, the event proceeded peacefully, demonstrating the disciplined participation of DMK cadres and the public. Party leaders reiterated that Annadurai’s ideals remain central to the DMK’s political and social agenda, emphasizing the party’s ongoing dedication to the values he championed.

The anniversary celebrations also served as a reminder of Annadurai’s transformative impact on Tamil Nadu, from championing language and cultural pride to pioneering welfare initiatives, cementing his status as a revered icon of the Dravidian movement.
