“Thoda Badal Gaye Ho”: Kharge's Unexpected Banter With PM Modi At Wedding Reception

A light-hearted exchange between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge became a notable moment at the wedding reception of NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule’s daughter in Delhi. The reception at 6 Janpath brought together leaders from across the political spectrum, with the interaction between Modi, Kharge and Congress leaders taking place away from the usual setting of Parliament.

PM Modi first greeted Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi with a handshake before turning towards Priyanka Gandhi. Folding his hands in a namaste, the Prime Minister asked Priyanka how she was doing. She responded that she was well and asked Modi about his well-being, prompting the Prime Minister to reply that he was “the same”.

Kharge, who was standing nearby and had been watching the exchange, responded with a joke. “Vaisa nahi hai, thoda badal gaye ho” — meaning “It’s not like that, you’ve changed a bit.” Modi reacted with a laugh and tapped Kharge on the arm. The two leaders then exchanged low-fives as people around them smiled and laughed.

The reception was held to celebrate the marriage of Revati Sule and Nagpur-based industrialist Sarang Lakhani. The couple had married in Mumbai in June, with the Delhi gathering serving as a larger reception attended by political figures, public personalities and other guests. Leaders from different parties were seen interacting informally during the event.

Several Union ministers attended the reception, including Amit Shah, S Jaishankar, Hardeep Singh Puri, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Ramdas Athawale and Chirag Paswan. Congress MP Deepender Hooda and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar were also seen greeting each other, while Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav was among the other prominent political guests.

Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi also attended the gathering. During the reception, Supriya Sule guided her to stand with the newlyweds and later brought Rahul Gandhi alongside them for a photograph. Olympic athlete and Indian Olympic Association president PT Usha and former Union minister Smriti Irani were also present. Political leaders were seen sharing tables and engaging in informal conversations during the reception.
