Telangana To Build Much Needed Ultra-Modern Junior Colleges For ₹117 Crore

PMJVK scheme to replace decades-old, dilapidated structures

The Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TGBIE) has launched a ₹117.30 crore initiative to construct 10 new government junior college buildings in minority-concentrated areas, replacing decades-old, dilapidated structures. The project, funded under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), will see the Union government contribute 60% (₹70.38 crore) and the state government 40% (₹46.92 crore).

Selected colleges currently operate in crumbling infrastructure with inadequate classrooms, furniture, and facilities. The new buildings will feature smart classrooms, computer labs, CCTV surveillance, modern furniture, and enhanced sanitation—all aimed at improving learning outcomes and reducing dropout rates. “This will create a hygienic, spacious environment and ease overcrowding,” a senior TGBIE official stated.

A flagship project is the ₹27.30 crore integrated campus at Nampally, merging Government Junior College (Boys) and Government Vocational Junior College into a single, state-of-the-art facility. Eight other colleges—including those in Nizamabad (Boys), Mahbubnagar (Girls), and Adilabad (Boys)—will receive ₹8 crore each for construction, plus ₹2 crore for smart infrastructure and equipment.

From this academic year, TGBIE has already introduced lab equipment, special coaching, facial recognition attendance, sports gear, and maintenance via Amma Adarsha Paatashaala Committees. The new buildings will build on these reforms, ensuring quality education in underserved regions.

Construction is set to begin shortly, with officials emphasizing the long-term impact: better retention, improved academic performance, and equal access to modern education for students in minority-dominated and rural pockets of Telangana.
