Telangana Rolls Out Showroom Registration for New Vehicles

Buyers can now get permanent registration for new cars and two-wheelers directly at authorised dealerships without visiting RTO.

In a major citizen-friendly reform, the Telangana Transport Department has launched a new system allowing permanent registration of new personal vehicles directly at authorised showrooms starting today, January 24, 2026. This eliminates the need for buyers to visit Regional Transport Offices (RTOs), saving time and reducing hassle for car and two-wheeler purchasers across the state.

Under the Dealer Point Registration System, authorised dealerships handle the entire process digitally. Dealers submit online applications and upload essential documents—including the invoice, Form 21, Form 22, insurance proof, address verification, and vehicle photographs. Transport officials then verify everything online, allot a registration number digitally, and dispatch the Registration Certificate (RC) to the buyer via speed post.

The initiative follows a successful pilot test conducted on January 23 at a Hyderabad showroom, where a four-wheeler was fully registered and delivered without any RTO visit. The facility applies only to new personal cars and two-wheelers purchased from January 24 onwards—commercial and transport vehicles continue to follow the traditional RTO registration route.

Officials highlight multiple benefits: reduced crowding at RTOs, faster processing, greater transparency, and enhanced convenience for vehicle buyers. Random inspections at dealerships will ensure compliance and prevent misuse. Prior to the statewide rollout, the Transport Commissioner conducted a virtual meeting with officials from all 33 districts to issue detailed guidelines and ensure smooth implementation.

This marks one of the first fully digital, dealer-led permanent registration systems in India that bypasses physical RTO visits entirely, setting a potential model for other states to streamline transport services and embrace citizen-centric digital governance.
