Telangana Phone-Tapping Case: SIT to Summon Former CM’s OSD P Rajashekar Reddy
SIT intensifies probe into Telangana phone-tapping scandal.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) tasked with probing the alleged illegal phone-tapping operations in Telangana is set to conduct another round of questioning with P Rajashekar Reddy, who previously served as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. This renewed focus on a key figure from the prior administration signals a deepening of the investigation, aimed at piecing together the extent and operational details of the surveillance activities allegedly conducted during the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government's tenure.
In related developments, authorities issued notices approximately ten days ago to former Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and former intelligence chief Naveen Chand, subsequently recording their statements in the capacity of witnesses. These sessions are intended to gather insights into administrative and intelligence protocols that may have facilitated or overseen the purported tapping activities, contributing essential context to the broader inquiry.
According to informed sources, former Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) chief T Prabhakar Rao, identified as a primary accused, continues to withhold substantial details during custodial interrogation, presenting significant challenges to investigators. Rao complied with a Supreme Court directive by surrendering to authorities, and his current questioning sessions are taking place at Jubilee Hills police station, with the period of police custody scheduled to expire on December 25.

Several former Directors General of Police (DGPs) along with senior bureaucrats who occupied pivotal roles in the previous regime are anticipated to be summoned for questioning by the SIT in the coming phases. The inquiries will center on critical aspects such as Prabhakar Rao's elevation to SIB chief, the involvement of other accused parties, and potential oversight mechanisms. Depending on the content of these testimonies, authorities may proceed to issue summons to select politicians affiliated with the former government.
The escalating momentum of the investigation reflects a systematic approach to establishing accountability and unraveling the network behind the phone-tapping allegations, which have raised serious concerns regarding privacy violations and misuse of state resources. Outcomes from these proceedings could have far-reaching political and legal ramifications for figures associated with the erstwhile BRS leadership.
