Telangana Man Dies After Thar Falls Into Well, Police Suspect IPL Distraction
Police suspect IPL distraction led to fatal Telangana accident.
A 28-year-old man died after the SUV he was driving plunged into an agricultural well in Telangana’s Jagtial town on Sunday night, while two of his friends travelling with him sustained injuries. Police said they are investigating multiple possible factors behind the accident, including reports that the occupants may have been watching an IPL match on a mobile phone at the time of the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Dasari Arun, a resident of Jagtial town. His friends, Ashwin and Nivesh, were rescued from the well by local residents and later shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials said both survivors are in stable condition.
According to police, the three friends had attended a gathering in Morapelli village earlier in the evening. After spending time there, they began their return journey to Jagtial in the SUV. While travelling on the narrow Morapelli–Thatipalli road, the vehicle reportedly veered off the road and fell into a nearby agricultural well.

Locals said they heard a loud sound following the crash and rushed to the spot. Two morning walkers nearby immediately responded, with one entering the well while others assisted from above. They managed to break the vehicle’s windows and rescue two occupants. However, Arun remained trapped inside the SUV.
Family members said rescue efforts were hindered as the steering wheel and seat belt had pinned Arun inside the vehicle. Despite repeated attempts by locals, he could not be pulled out at the scene. His father said Arun was a careful driver and denied allegations of alcohol consumption, adding that the family does not know how the accident occurred.
Police and fire department personnel later arrived and launched a coordinated rescue operation. After several hours, the vehicle was pulled out using a crane, and Arun’s body was recovered from inside the SUV. Officials said a case has been registered and statements from survivors and witnesses are being recorded as part of the ongoing investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
