Telangana Leaders Pay Tribute to Former Union Minister Shivraj Patil

Telangana CM and Congress leaders mourn the death of veteran leader Shivraj Patil.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed deep sorrow over the demise of veteran Congress leader and former Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, calling it a profound loss for both the nation and the party. In his condolence message, the Chief Minister highlighted Patil’s remarkable journey in public service and extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family.

Shivraj Patil, who passed away on Friday morning in his hometown of Latur, Maharashtra, at the age of 90, began his political career as a local body representative. He went on to be elected as a Member of Parliament seven times and served as the Governor of Punjab. His long tenure in Indian politics reflected his dedication to public service and institutional strengthening.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President B. Mahesh Kumar Goud also mourned Patil’s passing, recalling his significant contributions in the Cabinets of Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, and Dr. Manmohan Singh. Goud described Patil’s service as exemplary, emphasizing that his commitment and legacy would be remembered forever.

Minister for Information Technology and Industries D. Sridhar Babu paid tribute to Patil’s role in public life, saying that leaders like him strengthened institutions through integrity and responsible governance. He noted Patil’s distinguished service as Home Minister, Lok Sabha Speaker, and Governor of Punjab, which left a lasting impact on Indian democracy.

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar echoed the sentiments, stating that Shivraj Patil’s contributions to the nation and Congress Party were unparalleled. He prayed for eternal peace for Patil’s soul and extended condolences to the family, emphasizing that Patil’s decades-long political journey would always be remembered with respect.

Shivraj Patil is survived by his son, Shailesh Patil, his daughter-in-law Archana—who is a BJP leader—and two granddaughters. His passing marks the end of an era for the Congress party and Indian politics, leaving a legacy of decades of dedicated service and statesmanship.
