Telangana CM Challenges KCR to Water Debate

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy accused the BRS regime of costing Telangana its water rights

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has thrown down the gauntlet, inviting BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao for a public debate in the Assembly on irrigation projects and the utilization of Krishna and Godavari river waters. The challenge comes amid escalating tensions over water rights between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Speaking after a Krishna River water meeting on Wednesday, Reddy emphasized openness to KCR’s suggestions, experts’ opinions, and stakeholders’ inputs for the state’s benefit. “Let’s lay bare the decisions made under BRS rule and our government’s actions,” Reddy said, promising a respectful debate. He added, “If KCR’s health prevents him from attending, my cabinet and I will hold a mock assembly at his Erravalli farmhouse.”

Reddy accused the BRS regime of costing Telangana its water rights, claiming better decisions could have secured drinking water for Hyderabad and supported the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation scheme. “Had Krishna water been preserved at its entry point, diversion to Rayalaseema wouldn’t have happened,” he said, alleging losses in Telangana’s hydel power generation due to water diversion to Andhra Pradesh.
