Telangana Civil Supplies Commissioner Orders Priority Processing of Raw Rice

Telangana directs officials to prioritise raw rice processing over boiled rice.

Telangana Civil Supplies Department officials have been directed to prioritize the processing and delivery of raw rice, citing stronger demand for the variety at the national level compared with boiled rice. The instructions were issued by State Civil Supplies Commissioner M. Stephen Raveendra during a video conference with District Civil Supply Officers and district managers on Monday. Officials were asked to ensure that pending raw rice deliveries are cleared without delay and that procurement and processing operations remain aligned with national requirements.

The department has instructed district officials to hold meetings with rice millers and review pending deliveries of raw rice. Millers have been asked to complete outstanding deliveries immediately, while officials were told not to entertain excuses for delays. The move is aimed at speeding up the movement of rice stocks and ensuring that the State meets its obligations under the foodgrain distribution system.

During the meeting, the Commissioner emphasised that Telangana's operations should closely follow the requirements laid down by the Food Corporation of India (FCI). Officials have therefore been asked to monitor rice processing and delivery more closely and take necessary steps to address bottlenecks. The focus on raw rice comes amid the department's assessment that demand for the variety is currently higher at the national level.

District Civil Supply Officers and district managers have been given responsibility for coordinating with rice mills in their respective areas. Regular interaction with millers is expected to help identify pending consignments and accelerate deliveries. The administration's instructions indicate that delays in processing or supplying rice will be closely monitored as Telangana works to fulfil its foodgrain-related commitments.

The emphasis on raw rice also reflects the importance of coordinating State-level procurement and milling operations with the broader requirements of the national food distribution system. Rice procured by the government plays a key role in maintaining foodgrain stocks and supporting public distribution programmes. Ensuring that the required variety reaches the central pool on time is therefore an important part of the State's responsibilities.

Officials have now been asked to step up monitoring and ensure that rice mills comply with delivery schedules. By prioritising raw rice processing and clearing pending deliveries, the Civil Supplies Department aims to bring State operations in line with FCI requirements and respond to the prevailing national demand. The department is expected to continue reviewing the progress of deliveries and coordinate with millers to prevent further delays.
