Telangana Celebrates National Sports Day, Marking Major Dhyan Chand's Birth Anniversary
Telangana marks National Sports Day, honouring hockey legend Dhyan Chand.
National Sports Day was celebrated across Telangana with sporting and related activities organised at all 33 district headquarters and major sports venues in Hyderabad. The celebrations marked the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand and highlighted the importance of sports and physical activity across the State.
The events were organised under the aegis of the Sports Authority of Telangana at several prominent sporting facilities in Hyderabad. Activities were held at the Gachibowli Stadium, LB Stadium, KVB Indoor Stadium and Saroornagar Indoor Stadium, along with the Cycling Velodrome and Gymkhana Grounds. Similar programmes were conducted at district headquarters across Telangana.
At the Gachibowli Hockey Stadium, Sports and Youth Services Minister Vakiti Srihari and SATG Chairman Shivasena Reddy paid floral tributes to Major Dhyan Chand at his statue. The tribute formed part of the State-wide observance honouring the hockey legend, whose contribution to Indian sport continues to be remembered through National Sports Day.

The celebrations brought together sporting activities and programmes intended to promote greater participation in sports. By organising events across all district headquarters, the Sports Authority of Telangana sought to take the observance beyond major urban sporting facilities.
