Telangana Bus-Truck Collision: Death Toll Rises to Twenty Four, PM Modi Announces Aid

Truck crushes RTC bus, PM announces massive compensation.

A catastrophic collision in Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district claimed 24 lives on Monday morning when a speeding gravel-laden lorry slammed into a Telangana RTC passenger bus, burying the mangled front section under tons of falling debris and instantly killing both drivers along with dozens of trapped commuters. The sheer force of impact crumpled the bus like paper, leaving rescue teams scrambling with earthmovers to extract survivors pinned beneath the wreckage amid scenes of utter devastation on the highway.

Emergency crews and local police descended on the site within minutes, battling to free passengers crushed under the avalanche of gravel while ambulances ferried the injured to Chevella Government Hospital, with critical cases airlifted to Gandhi and Osmania Hospitals under direct orders from Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. A high-level control room was activated at the Secretariat to coordinate real-time updates, while Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar grilled RTC officials and demanded an immediate probe into the lorry’s reckless overload and speed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi voiced profound grief over the tragedy, announcing an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased victim and Rs 50,000 for every injured person to ease their financial burden. “My thoughts are with the affected families; praying for the speedy recovery of the injured,” the PMO posted on X, as authorities vowed to hold the guilty accountable and prevent future disasters on Telangana’s deadly roads.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, visibly shaken, rushed directives to officials to spare no effort in rescue and relief, personally monitoring operations while urging swift medical care for survivors. The Transport Minister ordered the Ranga Reddy District Collector to ensure top-tier treatment and dispatched senior RTC officers to oversee ground-level response, signaling zero tolerance for lapses that turned a routine journey into a nightmare.

As police launch a detailed investigation into the exact cause—suspecting overspeeding, overloading, and possible mechanical failure—the nation mourns yet another highway massacre that exposed glaring safety gaps. With 24 families shattered and many more fighting for life, the Telangana tragedy has sparked urgent calls for stricter enforcement, better vehicle checks, and infrastructure upgrades to stop the bloodshed on India’s roads.
