Telangana Braces for Catastrophic Rainfall

The India Meteorological Department's Met Centre has issued a red alert for multiple districts in Telangana, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall over the next two days starting Wednesday. Central districts including Sangareddy, Medak, Vikarabad, Khammam, and Mulugu are expected to experience severe downpours exceeding 20 cm in 24 hours, potentially leading to flooding and disruptions. An orange alert, indicating very heavy rainfall between 11 cm and 20 cm, has been issued for Hyderabad, Hanumakonda, Adilabad, Nalgonda, Ranga Reddy, and several other districts, urging residents to stay cautious.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy held an emergency meeting with ministers and officials on Tuesday evening to strategize for the impending weather crisis. Authorities have been instructed to remain on high alert for the next 72 hours, with disaster response teams mobilized to handle potential emergencies. Reddy has called on IT firms in Hyderabad to implement work-from-home policies to reduce road traffic and ensure public safety during the heavy rains. Additionally, all leaves for government officers and staff have been canceled to maintain full operational readiness.

The Chief Minister also directed officials to monitor water levels in reservoirs, rivers, and low-lying areas to prevent flooding. Local administrations have been tasked with ensuring proper drainage systems to mitigate waterlogging in urban areas like Hyderabad. Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stock essential supplies, and stay updated with weather alerts. Emergency helplines have been activated, and relief centers are being set up in vulnerable areas to assist those affected by the extreme weather. Telangana is gearing up for a challenging few days as it braces for the impact of this severe weather event.
