Telangana Bans Toxic Almont-Kid Syrup for Children After CDSCO Alert
Telangana orders immediate halt on use of Almont-Kid Syrup after CDSCO finds it adulterated with toxic Ethylene Glycol.
The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) on Saturday issued an urgent advisory directing the public to immediately stop using Almont-Kid Syrup, commonly prescribed for allergies, hay fever, and asthma in children. The move follows a warning from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) that the syrup has been found adulterated with Ethylene Glycol, a highly toxic chemical.
The DCA notification stated that laboratory tests revealed contamination in the Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride and Montelukast Sodium syrup (Batch No.: AL-24002), manufactured by Tridus Remedies, Bihar. Authorities advised consumers to report any possession of the syrup to the nearest Drugs Control Authority without delay.
All state-level Drugs Inspectors and Assistant Directors have been instructed to alert hospitals, pharmacies, wholesalers, and distributors to immediately freeze stocks of the affected batch. The sale or dispensing of this product is strictly prohibited until further notice, according to the DCA.

To safeguard public health, the DCA has set up a toll-free number for reporting possession of the contaminated syrup. Enforcement measures are actively underway, with authorities closely monitoring compliance and ensuring no further distribution of the hazardous product.
The advisory strongly cautioned parents and caregivers to exercise vigilance and refrain from giving the syrup to children, highlighting the severe health risks associated with Ethylene Glycol toxicity, which can cause organ damage and life-threatening complications.
Officials stressed that early reporting and compliance with the advisory are critical to preventing potential health emergencies, and further updates will be communicated as the investigation progresses.
