TATA AutoComp, Skoda Group Launch Multi-Million Euro JV for Railway Components in India

The joint venture strengthens TATA AutoComp’s portfolio and Skoda’s global presence while fostering innovation in India’s rail sector.

TATA AutoComp Systems and Skoda Group, a leading European manufacturer of public transport components, unveiled a joint venture on Wednesday to manufacture railway propulsion systems and components in India, backed by a multi-million-euro investment. The partnership aims to cater to the expanding Indian railway and public mobility markets, leveraging TATA AutoComp’s expertise in electric vehicle systems and Skoda’s advanced technology.

The new company, co-owned by both partners, will focus on producing converters, drives, and auxiliary converters for medium- to high-speed trains, regional trains, metros, and light rail vehicles. Operations will be based in India, promising economic growth and technological advancements for the region. The venture aligns with India’s “Make in India” initiative, emphasizing sustainable and cost-effective mobility solutions.

“This collaboration enhances our footprint in the Indian railway and metro sectors by introducing cutting-edge electrical propulsion systems,” said Arvind Goel, Vice-Chairman of TATA AutoComp. Petr Novotny, Skoda Group CEO, added, “We’re bringing proven European technology to India, combining years of expertise with TATA AutoComp’s market knowledge to meet the dynamic needs of India’s railway industry.”
