On Tantrik’s Advice Man Kills, Dismembers Grandnephew

Sharan Singh arrested for gruesome murder in Prayagraj.

In a horrifying case that has shocked Uttar Pradesh, Sharan Singh, a resident of the Kareli area in Prayagraj, was arrested Wednesday night for the brutal murder and dismemberment of his 17-year-old grandnephew, Piyush. The accused allegedly acted on the advice of a tantrik, who claimed the teenager’s survival was responsible for the deaths of Sharan’s own children, police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhishek Bharti revealed that Sharan, the brother of Piyush’s grandfather, confessed to the crime during interrogation. Sharan’s son and daughter died by suicide in 2023 and 2024, respectively. Devastated, he sought answers from a tantrik, who shockingly claimed that Piyush was “meant to die” and that his continued existence caused the tragedies. The tantrik allegedly instructed Sharan to kill the boy to rectify the cosmic imbalance.

Piyush, a Class 11 student at Saraswati Vidya Mandir, was reported missing on Tuesday after he left for school but never arrived. His mother, Kamini Devi, filed a missing person report at Kareli police station when she learned he hadn’t attended classes. The police investigation took a grim turn when a torso was found in a drain in the Naini industrial area later that day. The body remained unidentified until Wednesday, when Piyush’s severed head was discovered in the Saidpur Kachhar area, confirming the worst fears.

A breakthrough came when a local woman reported seeing a man on a scooter discarding a bundle into the drain near Kuria Lawayan village. Her description matched Sharan, leading to his swift arrest. Sharan admitted to luring Piyush, killing him, and dismembering his body. He wrapped the torso in a sari and dumped it in the drain, while the head was discarded elsewhere to hinder identification.

The case has sparked outrage, raising questions about the influence of occult practices and the vulnerability of grieving individuals to manipulation. Sharan remains in custody as police continue their investigation, probing the tantrik’s role and any additional motives. The community mourns Piyush, a promising student, as authorities vow to ensure justice in this gruesome tragedy.
