Tamil Nadu To Establish 2 Electronics Clusters with Investment of Rs 1,112 Crore

Union Minister for Electronics & IT Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Saturday the establishment of two Electronics Manufacturing Clusters in Tamil Nadu, at Pillai Pakkam and Manallur.

Union Minister for Electronics & IT Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Saturday the establishment of two Electronics Manufacturing Clusters in Tamil Nadu, at Pillai Pakkam and Manallur, with a combined investment of Rs 1,112 crore. The initiative, unveiled during the launch of Zetwerk Electronics’ new facility in Chennai, aims to bolster India’s role in the global Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector.

The 15-acre Chennai plant, equipped with Surface-Mount Technology (SMT) and Manual Insertion (MI) lines, will produce control boards for appliances and IT hardware. Vaishnaw emphasized its significance, stating, “This facility will propel Tamil Nadu’s electronics industry and support India’s $500 billion ESDM goal.” He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for positioning India as a manufacturing hub, noting Tamil Nadu’s gains from a railway budget exceeding Rs 6,000 crore.

Tamil Nadu Industries Minister Dr T.R.B. Rajaa highlighted the state’s 36% share of India’s electronics exports, expressing optimism about reaching $100 billion annually with such investments. The new clusters and facility, set to employ 1,200 skilled workers, underscore Tamil Nadu’s growing prominence in the sector.

Zetwerk CEO Amrit Acharya called the factory a milestone in enhancing India’s high-value electronics capabilities and global supply chain role. “We’re committed to innovation, sustainability, and workforce growth,” he said. The plant features advanced production and testing processes, aligning with India’s broader push to strengthen domestic manufacturing and export prowess.
