Tamil Nadu Never Opposed Hindi, Only Language Imposition: Minister TRB Rajaa

Industries Minister clarifies state’s stance at NDTV Tamil Nadu Conclave

Tamil Nadu Industries Minister TRB Rajaa firmly rejected claims of any anti-Hindi sentiment in the state, asserting that the government has never said it would prevent people from speaking Hindi. Speaking at the NDTV Tamil Nadu Conclave in Chennai, Rajaa emphasized that Tamil Nadu proudly hosts a large and thriving Hindi-speaking population, alongside significant communities from Germany, Japan, and other countries who feel welcomed and happy in the state.

He described protecting Tamil as a “civilizational duty” but made it clear that opposition is directed solely at the imposition of any language, not at Hindi itself or its speakers. Rajaa pointed out the presence of numerous investors from Hindi-speaking regions of northern India, saying the state has no issue with them and values their contributions. He argued that no rational investor would base decisions on language rather than infrastructure, education, governance, and ease of doing business—areas where Tamil Nadu excels.

The minister urged the central government to draw lessons from Tamil Nadu’s Dravidian model of governance, which he said focuses on delivering jobs, empowerment, and better lives for youth rather than short-lived social media attention. He highlighted policy reforms and business-friendly tweaks that make the state attractive for genuine industrial growth, while expressing disinterest in “divisive” investors influenced by language politics.

Rajaa also took a swipe at actor-turned-politician Vijay, accusing him of echoing BJP rhetoric and acting as its “Z Team” in Tamil Nadu. He called for healthy political debate instead of falsehoods and muck-raking, insisting that politics in the state should remain constructive.

The remarks come amid ongoing national discussions on language policies and regional identity, with Rajaa reinforcing Tamil Nadu’s commitment to linguistic diversity without compromising its cultural heritage.
