Suvendu Adhikari Meets President, PM And Union Ministers, Plans Bengal Cabinet Expansion

Suvendu Adhikari meets top leaders in Delhi, hints at Bengal cabinet expansion.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari met top constitutional and central government leaders in the national capital on Friday, including President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Home Minister Amit Shah, during a high-level visit aimed at discussing governance priorities and administrative coordination. The meeting comes as Adhikari prepares for a proposed cabinet expansion in the state.

Speaking to reporters at Banga Bhawan after the series of meetings, Adhikari said that discussions focused on strengthening development initiatives and improving implementation of central schemes in West Bengal. He indicated that several Union government programmes, including Ayushman Bharat, are expected to be rolled out more comprehensively in the state under his administration’s supervision.

Adhikari also stated that his government is committed to ensuring that all central schemes are effectively executed in West Bengal, adding that cooperation with the Centre would help accelerate development projects. He expressed optimism that the state would receive increased funding support under national initiatives such as Namami Gange, along with allocations for the agricultural sector.

In his remarks, the Chief Minister also confirmed that a cabinet expansion in West Bengal is likely to take place soon. He said the restructuring would be part of efforts to strengthen governance and ensure more efficient implementation of development programmes across departments.

Adhikari further said that strategic infrastructure development in sensitive regions, including the so-called ‘Chicken’s Neck’ corridor, would be taken up in coordination with central agencies such as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). He reiterated his government’s commitment to fulfilling the promises made in the BJP’s manifesto and ensuring administrative transparency.

He also commented on law enforcement and national security issues, stating that agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) were functioning independently and carrying out their responsibilities. The visit and subsequent statements underline ongoing political and administrative developments ahead of key governance decisions in the state.
