STRICT ACTION AGAINST OFFENDERS!! UP CM Cracks Whip On Accident Toll
Speaking at a State Road Safety Council meeting in Lucknow, attended by ministers, senior officials, and police representatives, CM Yogi Adityanath outlined urgent measures to curb the state’s rising accident toll.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday instructed officials to construct hospitals along expressways to ensure swift medical aid for road accident victims. Speaking at a State Road Safety Council meeting in Lucknow, attended by ministers, senior officials, and police representatives, he outlined urgent measures to curb the state’s rising accident toll.
In 2024, Uttar Pradesh reported 46,052 road accidents, resulting in 34,600 injuries and over 24,000 deaths, figures Adityanath called “extremely tragic.” He proposed hospitals on both sides of expressways, modeled after food plazas, equipped with trauma centers, ambulances, and trained staff. He also urged officials to address accident-prone “black spots” and enhance coordination across departments.
Data showed 42% of fatalities occurred in 20 districts, including Hardoi, Mathura, Agra, Lucknow, and Kanpur. Adityanath directed monthly district-level and quarterly divisional meetings to analyze causes and promote awareness, noting that six divisions held just one meeting last year.
To enforce safety, he ordered strict action against over-speeding, drunk driving, wrong-side driving, using phones while driving, and jumping red lights. Unauthorized vehicles, overloaded trucks, and illegal buses will face removal, while liquor shops along highways are to be shut down. Oversized hoardings will also be resized.
Adityanath emphasized education, directing schools to teach traffic rules and organize safety activities. He called for verifying e-rickshaw drivers to stop underage driving and increasing cranes, patrol vehicles, and ambulances on highways. Additionally, he mandated CCTV installation on all 93 National Highways Authority of India roads in the state, where only four currently have cameras. The measures aim to reduce accidents and improve emergency response across Uttar Pradesh’s extensive road network.
