Stray Dogs Kill Woman in Uttar Pradesh Village

Mentally challenged woman mauled by stray dogs in Kushinagar.

A 30-year-old mentally challenged woman named Madhuri was fatally mauled by a pack of stray dogs in Arjun Dumri village, under Hata police station limits in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district, police confirmed on Wednesday. The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday night, highlighting the growing concern over stray dog attacks in the region.

Hata Station House Officer (SHO) Ramsahay Chauhan reported that police received a distress call around 7 pm, alerting them to Madhuri’s body lying in a paddy field near the village panchayat building, where it was being attacked by stray dogs. Officers promptly arrived, dispersed the dogs using sticks, and secured the body for investigation. According to Chauhan, Madhuri, who was known to be mentally challenged, had likely wandered behind the panchayat building for unknown reasons before her death, after which the dogs began mauling her body.

Villagers noted that Madhuri frequently roamed the village and had been missing since Monday. Despite her family’s efforts to locate her, she was not found until Tuesday evening, when her body was discovered in the paddy field, partially eaten by the dogs. Local residents have raised alarms about the ongoing stray dog problem, citing previous attacks, including the killing of a cow last year and a goat eight months ago, which have heightened fears for community safety.

He promised comprehensive support for Madhuri’s family, including assistance with funeral arrangements and potential compensation, as the community grapples with this loss and demands action against the stray dog menace.
