Stay Calm, Ignore Rumours! J&K Government's Call to Citizens As Nightfall Approaches
J&K Government Urges Calm, Warns Against Rumours Amid Indo-Pak Conflict
As India-Pakistan military tensions escalate, the Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday urged residents to remain calm and refrain from spreading or engaging with rumours, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in maintaining peace.
The statement comes amid heightened conflict following India’s missile strikes on Pakistani airbases on May 10, in retaliation for Pakistan’s drone attacks on 26 Indian locations the previous day.
In an official statement, the government praised citizens for their resilience amid recent developments, including India’s Operation Sindoor on May 7–8, which targeted terrorist infrastructure across the border.

“Misinformation and unverified claims on social media can cause unnecessary panic,” the statement warned, advising residents to rely solely on credible news outlets and government communications for accurate updates. Social media platforms like X have been rife with unverified reports, including claims of explosions at Pakistan’s Nur Khan Airbase, underscoring the risk of misinformation.
The government assured the public it is fully equipped to handle any exigency, with continuous monitoring and robust measures in place. “There is no cause for alarm,” the statement said, urging adherence to Standard Operating Procedures issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The health department has activated emergency protocols to address potential medical needs, reflecting a state of high preparedness.
Public cooperation was deemed “crucial” for maintaining discipline, with a special appeal to mediapersons to share information responsibly and follow government guidelines. Further updates will be provided exclusively through official channels, the government clarified, reaffirming its commitment to citizen safety.
“Stay vigilant, stay informed, and let’s work together to uphold the security and stability of our great nation,” the statement concluded.
The advisory follows intense cross-border hostilities, including heavy shelling along the Line of Control, prompting heightened alertness in Jammu and Kashmir, a region acutely sensitive to Indo-Pak conflicts.
