Stalin’s Emotional Tribute to Karunanidhi Stirs Tamil Nadu

Silent march honors DMK icon on 7th death anniversary.

In a heartfelt tribute to the legendary DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin led a solemn silent march in Chennai today, marking the 7th anniversary of the iconic leader’s passing. The procession, which wound its way to Karunanidhi’s Marina beachfront memorial, saw an outpouring of devotion from thousands of DMK supporters, party workers, and leaders, including prominent figures like TR Baalu and A Raaja.

The air resonated with slogans like “Vaazhga, vaazhga, vaazhgave; Thalaivar Kalaignar Pugazh Vazhgave” (Long live chief Kalaignar’s fame), as the crowd honored the legacy of Karunanidhi (1924-2018), a towering figure in Tamil Nadu’s political and cultural landscape.

The memorial, adorned with vibrant flowers, became a focal point of reverence as Stalin laid a wreath, and party leaders showered petals in a moving gesture of respect. Karunanidhi, affectionately known as Kalaignar, was a five-time chief minister, prolific writer, and Dravidian movement stalwart whose contributions continue to shape Tamil Nadu’s identity.

Adding depth to the commemoration, Stalin unveiled two significant initiatives. The Kalaignar Nidhinalgai Thittam, a financial assistance program, aims to nurture young scholars of the Dravidian movement, ensuring Karunanidhi’s ideological legacy endures. Additionally, the Kalaignar Manava Pathirikkaiyalar Thittam (Kalaignar Student Journalists Scheme), launched in collaboration with DMK’s mouthpiece Murasoli and Kalaignar Seithigal television, seeks to empower aspiring journalists, reflecting Karunanidhi’s lifelong commitment to media and public discourse.
