SpiceJet Staffer Bedridden After Assault by Army Officer
SpiceJet employee assaulted by Army officer over baggage dispute.
A violent altercation at Srinagar International Airport has left SpiceJet employee Mudasir Ahmad Khan bedridden with a spinal fracture after an alleged assault by Lieutenant Colonel R.K. Singh on July 26. Khan, who was enforcing baggage weight limits, claims Singh attacked him and three colleagues over a dispute involving excess cabin luggage. “He hit me with the bag, punched me, and slapped me until I bled and fainted,” Khan told PTI Videos from his Srinagar home, where he remains immobilized.
The incident occurred when Khan asked Singh, posted at the Army’s High Altitude Warfare School in Gulmarg, to pay for two cabin bags weighing 16 kilograms—exceeding the 7-kilogram limit per piece. Singh, bound for Delhi on SpiceJet flight SG-386, allegedly refused, became aggressive, and violated security protocols by entering the aerobridge without completing boarding. Escorted back by CISF personnel, he reportedly attacked Khan with punches, kicks, and an iron queue stand, leaving another employee with jaw injuries and bleeding.
SpiceJet condemned the “murderous assault,” noting that one staff member fell unconscious, yet Singh continued the attack. The airline has secured CCTV footage, handed it to police, and is pushing to place Singh on a no-fly list. A case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 115 for causing hurt has been filed against Singh, who countered with an assault complaint against the staff. The Srinagar police are investigating, with no detentions reported yet.
