Smoke Fills Room During Mayawati's Birthday Press Meet After Short Circuit

Smoke from short circuit fills room at Mayawati's birthday press meet; no injuries.

A brief moment of panic occurred on Thursday during a press conference addressed by Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati at the party headquarters in Lucknow. Smoke filled the room after an electrical short circuit, prompting immediate concern among journalists and party workers present at the venue.

The incident took place toward the end of the press conference, which was organised to mark Mayawati’s 70th birthday. Witnesses reported smoke emerging from a bulb inside the hall, leading to a temporary commotion before the situation was brought under control.

BSP State President Vishwanath Pal clarified that the incident was caused by a fused bulb that resulted in a short circuit in the wiring. He said the wire burned briefly, producing a small amount of smoke, but stressed that there was no fire and no damage to property.

Party officials confirmed that Mayawati and all members of the media present were completely safe. The press conference was concluded without further disruption, and normalcy was restored shortly after the incident.

Mayawati, who turned 70 on Thursday, observed the occasion across Uttar Pradesh as ‘Jan Kalyankari Diwas’. Party leaders said the minor incident did not affect the scheduled events, and celebrations continued peacefully across the state.
