Sitharaman’s Meghalaya tour ignites growth

Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman kicks off a dynamic four-day visit to Meghalaya today, spotlighting development and entrepreneurship. Arriving in Shillong this afternoon, she will dive into key events, including the Northeast Conclave, officials confirmed.

Today, Sitharaman will launch the Polo Shopping Complex and connect with Project Monitoring Information System (PMIS) interns. On July 11, she will inaugurate the Northeast Conclave and lay the foundation for the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) campus at IIM Shillong, with Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma as guest of honour.

Her schedule includes a tour of Shillong Tech Park at Umsawli and an exhibition of farmers’ and entrepreneurs’ products at Lariti International Centre. On July 12, she will engage industry leaders at Courtyard Marriott, followed by meetings with Women Self-Help Groups, 'Lakhpati Didis', and farmer producer organisations in Laitkynsew village. Later, she will interact with beneficiaries of the Payment for Ecosystem Services Programme in Siej village and attend a public event in Sohbar, a Vibrant Village near the Indo-Bangladesh border.

Sitharaman wraps up her visit on July 13 at Ramakrishna Mission School in Sohra, reinforcing her focus on fostering economic growth and community ties in Meghalaya.
