SIT To Submit Final Report In Sabarimala Gold Case After Kerala HC Direction

The Kerala High Court has directed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to complete its probe into the alleged Sabarimala gold misappropriation case without further delay. The SIT informed the court that it would submit the final report in one of the two criminal cases under investigation within 30 days, marking a significant stage in the long-running inquiry.

The assurance was given after investigators received the results of scientific examinations, which the SIT said had helped establish key aspects of the alleged offence. The court was informed that the findings assisted investigators in understanding the method in which the alleged irregularities were carried out. The matter has been scheduled for further hearing on September 3.

The case relates to alleged irregularities during the gold-plating work of the Dwarapalaka panels, which are associated with guardian deities at the Sabarimala temple. The SIT clarified that two separate criminal cases have been registered in connection with the alleged violations, with the final report in one case expected within a month while the second investigation remains ongoing.

During the hearing, the SIT informed the court that statements from 54 witnesses had been recorded in the case registered in 2025 over the alleged attempt to transport the gold-plated panels. Investigators said scientific examination reports had supported important parts of the probe and helped reconstruct the sequence of events surrounding the alleged actions.

Earlier, the SIT had submitted an interim report naming former Travancore Devaswom Board President P. S. Prasanth, the Travancore Devaswom Board and the Sabarimala Tantri among those accused in the case. The investigation has alleged that a criminal conspiracy was carried out in 2019 to conceal the alleged use of a lower quantity of gold than officially claimed during the panel gold-plating process.

The SIT has also alleged that the removal and transportation of the panels to Chennai violated Travancore Devaswom Board procedures and involved coordination between sponsors and certain officials over several years. The case has drawn significant public attention due to its connection with the Sabarimala temple and concerns regarding the management of valuable religious assets. The upcoming final report is expected to play a key role in determining the further course of legal proceedings.
