SIT Raids Event Organizer and Manager Homes in Zubeen Garg Death Investigation
Assam Police SIT raids homes of event organizer and manager investigating Zubeen Garg’s drowning.
The Assam Police's Special Investigating Team (SIT), tasked with probing the mysterious death of beloved singer Zubeen Garg, carried out targeted raids on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at the residences of key figures linked to his final performance. The operations focused on Shyamkanu Mahanta, organizer of the Northeast India Festival, and Siddhartha Sharma, his manager, as authorities deepen their inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Garg's tragic drowning in Singapore on September 19.
An SIT team descended upon Mahanta's home in Geetanagar, Guwahati, where they encountered only two household helpers; none of Mahanta's family members were present during the search. In a parallel action, another team targeted Sharma's apartment in the Dhirenpara area, finding it secured with a lock. With a magistrate overseeing the proceedings, the lock was broken to facilitate a thorough search. Residents reported that Sharma's mother, brother, and sister, who share the apartment, have not been sighted since the day of Garg's death, raising further questions in the ongoing investigation.
The 10-member SIT, headed by Special Director General of Police (DGP) M P Gupta, was constituted by the Assam government to meticulously examine the events leading to Garg's demise. The singer had traveled to Singapore specifically to perform at the Northeast India Festival, where the unfortunate incident occurred. As the raids yield potential leads, the probe aims to uncover any lapses or irregularities that may have contributed to the loss of one of Assam's most iconic musical voices.
