Sikkim’s NaMo Marathon Draws 500+ Runners in Celebration of Fitness and Unity

Sikkim’s NaMo Marathon unites 500+ runners for fitness and community spirit.

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang inaugurated the NaMo Marathon at Ridge Park in Gangtok, a key event organized by the state’s Sports and Youth Affairs Department as part of the Sewa Pakhwada observance. The marathon, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 'Fit India, Healthy India' vision, drew 501 participants from a registered pool of 711, including individuals from across India, showcasing a collective commitment to physical fitness and community engagement.

The event featured four distinct categories to encourage broad participation: a 21 km race for open men and women, a 21 km masters/veterans category for those over 45, and two 3 km races for schoolchildren aged 10–12 and 13–16. This inclusive structure fostered participation from diverse age groups and backgrounds, reflecting the marathon’s aim to inspire an active lifestyle. Chief Minister Tamang, in a social media post, celebrated the event’s success, stating, “It embodies the values of service, dedication, and collective responsibility towards society,” and praised the enthusiastic turnout that made the occasion memorable.

Yangchen Doma Tamang, Secretary of the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, highlighted the event’s significance in promoting health and unity, noting the participation of individuals from other states. The presence of Minister Raju Basnet further underscored the state’s commitment to fostering such initiatives. The NaMo Marathon not only served as a platform for physical fitness but also reinforced Sikkim’s dedication to national campaigns promoting well-being.
