Shubham Khairnar Remanded in Judicial Custody; CBI Continues Investigation into NEET Paper Leak

NEET paper leak accused remanded in judicial custody till June.

A Delhi court on Sunday sent Shubham Khairnar, an accused in the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case, to judicial custody till June 6. The order was passed by Special Judge Ruchi Aggarwal. Asrani after considering a plea filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the alleged examination leak.

According to the CBI, Khairnar and other accused persons were “actively” involved in leaking the NEET-UG 2026 examination paper before the test began. The agency informed the court that judicial custody was necessary to ensure a fair and uninterrupted investigation into the case, which has drawn nationwide attention because of the scale and seriousness of the allegations.

In its remand application, the CBI argued that keeping the accused in judicial custody would help prevent tampering with evidence and influencing witnesses connected to the investigation. The agency also expressed concerns that the accused could abscond, destroy physical or digital evidence, or become involved in similar offenses if released at this stage of the probe.

The federal agency further told the court that the investigation is currently at an early stage and additional custodial interrogation may be required depending on future developments in the case. The CBI stated that police custody remand of the accused could again be sought later under legal provisions if new evidence or leads emerge during the investigation process.

The NEET paper leak controversy has sparked widespread concern over the integrity of competitive examinations in India. The CBI has so far arrested 10 individuals in connection with the case and continues to investigate the alleged network involved in leaking examination questions. The incident has intensified demands for stricter security measures and greater transparency in conducting national-level entrance examinations.
