Shine Tom Chacko Surfaces at Kochi Police Station After Rumored Disappearance

Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko, presumed to have skipped town after a dramatic escape from a hotel during a police raid, appeared at the Ernakulam Town North police station today at 10:00 AM for questioning.

The Dasara star’s arrival, accompanied by his lawyer and father, stunned onlookers, as rumors swirled that he had gone into hiding following his Wednesday night flight from a Kaloor hotel during a District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) operation. Chacko, tight-lipped amid a media frenzy, faced a barrage of around 30 questions from police probing why he fled through a third-floor window, landed on an asbestos sheet, and escaped via a swimming pool on a two-wheeler, as captured by CCTV footage.

The controversy began earlier this week when the Kochi City Police, along with the DANSAF (District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force) team, conducted a raid at a  hotel in Ernakulam. Shine, who was reportedly staying there, dramatically fled the scene through a window upon seeing the police. The raid, triggered by a tip-off about a drug peddler, led police to Chacko’s name in the hotel register, though no narcotics were found in his room. Authorities, with the Narcotics Cell Assistant Commissioner present, are analyzing his call records from the past month to unravel the incident.

While Shine has not been named as an accused in any case so far, the police are keen to question him about his presence at the hotel and his sudden departure during the raid. The authorities want to know the circumstances that led to his actions and whether there is any connection to the broader drug investigation. 

And then there is also the allegations of actress Vincy Aloshious who recently filed a complaint, alleging inappropriate behaviour by Shine on the sets of the film Sutravaakyam. Vincy has not openly named Shine. But he is the one her allegations point to, and since he has chosen to make himself scarce, things have spiralled sensationally. 

Vincy has accused Shine of misconduct under the influence of drugs. The Producers' Association and the actors' guild AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) are also following the matter with interest.

It may be recalled that in 2015, Shine was arrested in a high-profile cocaine possession case but was later acquitted due to lack of evidence. The current investigation has reignited debates about the prevalence of substance abuse in the Malayalam film industry.
