Sheikh Hasina Defiant Before Big Verdict: “Allah Gave Life, He Will Take It”
Ex–Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina dismisses charges as political ahead of key tribunal verdict.
Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has issued a strong statement ahead of a crucial court verdict in Dhaka, declaring that she remains unbothered by the charges levelled against her. The 78-year-old leader, now residing in New Delhi after fleeing Bangladesh last year, described the allegations of crimes against humanity as baseless and politically motivated. The ruling is expected to be delivered soon by the International Crimes Tribunal, set up under the current interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus.
In an emotional audio message to her supporters, Hasina accused the Yunus-led interim regime of attempting to dismantle her party, the Awami League. She insisted that her organization’s strength lies with the people and not in the hands of any political opportunist. “Awami League has come up from the grassroots, not from the pocket of some usurper of power,” Hasina reportedly said, arguing that the tribunal’s proceedings are part of a larger plan to erase her political legacy.
Hasina also rejected accusations of human rights violations during her tenure, pointing to her government’s humanitarian actions, including sheltering nearly one million Rohingya refugees from Myanmar. “I gave refuge to 10 lakh Rohingya and they accuse me of violating human rights?” she asked. The former prime minister claimed that Yunus’s government had instead granted amnesty to criminals, thereby denying justice to thousands of victims’ families.

Expressing both faith and defiance, Hasina reassured her followers that she remains committed to Bangladesh’s welfare despite her exile. “I am alive, I will stay alive, and I will work for the people again,” she said, calling the trial a temporary roadblock in her political journey. She described the vandalism at the prime minister’s residence, Gonobhaban, as a disgrace and condemned those involved, calling them “hooligans and terrorists.”
Hasina concluded her message by urging her supporters to stay resilient, claiming that the current administration has failed to sustain the nation’s economy or social stability. She alleged that industrial output has dropped, unemployment has surged, and corruption is crippling the banking sector. “We have to free Bangladesh from this situation. Everyone, please stay well. Jai Bangla,” she signed off.
