Shatrughan Sinha Maintains Silence Amid Rebel Faction Challenge in TMC
Shatrughan Sinha remains silent amid TMC rebel faction challenge.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is witnessing a phase of internal political turbulence in West Bengal, with reports of dissent among several Members of Parliament fuelling speculation about factional realignments within the party’s parliamentary ranks. Amid this growing uncertainty, veteran actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha has remained notably silent, drawing attention across political circles.
The controversy reportedly began after senior TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar wrote to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, claiming that a section of party MPs were inclined towards aligning with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The claim, which suggested that a significant number of MPs were open to shifting allegiance, has added to tensions within the party at a sensitive political moment.
The situation escalated further after a meeting in New Delhi at the residence of Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav, where several TMC MPs were reportedly present. The gathering, which included multiple lawmakers from West Bengal, has triggered further speculation about possible coordination between dissident MPs and BJP leaders, although no official confirmation of any defection or formal alliance shift has been made by the individuals involved.

Within the party, the leadership led by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is said to be relying on a core group of loyal MPs to maintain stability amid the reported unrest. Prominent leaders such as Kirti Azad, Mahua Moitra, and Saugata Roy continue to be associated with the party’s official position and are seen as key figures reinforcing its parliamentary strength during this period of uncertainty.
Against this backdrop, attention has increasingly turned to Shatrughan Sinha, the MP from Asansol, whose absence from public commentary on the issue has raised questions within political and media circles. Known in earlier political phases for his outspoken views and sharp rhetoric, Sinha has not issued any statement addressing the reported rift or the allegations of shifting loyalties among party colleagues.
Observers note that his silence is particularly significant given his stature as a high-profile leader and his history of active participation in political debates at the national level. In a situation where other leaders have either publicly aligned with factions or responded to media scrutiny, Sinha’s non-intervention stands out as an unusual departure from his typical public engagement style.
At present, there is no official indication from Sinha or the TMC suggesting any change in his political position or affiliation. His continued silence has therefore become a subject of political curiosity rather than confirmation of any internal disagreement. As the situation evolves, party watchers suggest that clarity from senior leaders may be crucial in stabilising perceptions and preventing further escalation of internal tensions within the TMC’s parliamentary wing.
