Seychelles Awards PM Modi ‘Guardian Of The Blue Horizon’ Title For Maritime Leadership

Seychelles honours PM Modi for maritime leadership role.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Sunday conferred with the honorary title “Guardian of the Blue Horizon” by Seychelles in recognition of his contributions to environmental conservation and support for Small Island Developing States. The honour was presented by Seychelles President Patrick Herminie during PM Modi’s official visit to the island nation.

The award marks the first time Seychelles has bestowed the title on any global leader and is described as the 34th international honour received by the Indian Prime Minister. According to officials, the recognition highlights India’s growing engagement with global climate action and sustainable development initiatives, particularly those focused on island nations vulnerable to climate change.

During the ceremony, President Herminie praised PM Modi’s leadership in promoting climate resilience, sustainable development and the blue economy. He noted that the title symbolises appreciation for leaders who support environmental protection and the long-term sustainability of marine ecosystems and coastal communities.

In his acceptance remarks, PM Modi dedicated the honour to countries working to combat climate change and emphasised the need for global cooperation in addressing environmental challenges. He said India remains committed to building a greener and more sustainable future through domestic policies and international partnerships.

The Prime Minister also highlighted India’s key environmental initiatives, including Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, and the International Big Cat Alliance. He said these efforts reflect India’s broader commitment to climate action and sustainable development. PM Modi is on a three-day visit to Seychelles, where he is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Herminie and participate as Guest of Honour at the country’s National Day golden jubilee celebrations. The visit comes shortly after he was conferred Slovakia’s highest civilian honour earlier this month.
