Seven Hyderabad Eateries Face Scrutiny After Inspectors Find Expired Food And Pests
Expired food and pests found at Hyderabad restaurants.
The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) found multiple food safety and hygiene violations during inspections at seven popular restaurants across Hyderabad, officials said. The violations included expired food items, poor storage practices, pest infestation and alleged breaches of food labelling and display regulations. The inspections were conducted as part of an ongoing enforcement drive aimed at checking compliance with food safety requirements at restaurants and other food establishments. Six teams comprising Food Safety Officers and police personnel carried out the inspections in Hyderabad's Core Urban Region (CURE) on Saturday. The teams visited restaurants in several prominent parts of the city and examined food storage areas, kitchens and other premises.
Officials also checked food products and related practices to identify violations that could pose risks to consumers or breach prescribed food safety standards. The restaurants inspected included Chutneys, Spice 6 and Ohri's in Banjara Hills, The Spicy Venue in Jubilee Hills, 4 Seasons Multi-Cuisine Restaurant and Shah Ghouse in Tolichowki, and Pista House in Gachibowli. The establishments are located across different parts of Hyderabad and cater to a large number of customers, making compliance with food safety and hygiene requirements an important part of the inspections. According to officials, inspectors found expired food items at some of the establishments.
Teams also reported problems involving food storage and general hygiene. Pest infestation was among the violations identified during the inspections, while officials also flagged alleged issues concerning food labelling and display requirements. Such checks are intended to ensure that food products are properly stored, labelled and handled before being served to consumers. The authority has issued notices to several establishments following the inspections. Food samples were also collected from the restaurants for laboratory testing. The sampling process will allow officials to determine whether the products comply with applicable food safety standards and whether any further regulatory action is required based on the test results.

Food safety inspections typically examine several aspects of restaurant operations, including cleanliness, storage conditions, handling practices and the condition of food products. Expired items and improper storage can affect food quality, while pest infestation can create additional hygiene concerns. Labelling and display requirements are also intended to ensure that consumers receive accurate information about food products and establishments comply with regulatory standards. The latest inspections form part of TG SAFE's continuing enforcement activity in Hyderabad. By combining Food Safety Officers with police personnel, the authority has expanded its inspection teams to cover multiple establishments and identify violations.
Notices issued during such inspections provide establishments an opportunity to respond to the findings, while laboratory results from collected samples can help determine whether additional action is necessary. The findings at the seven restaurants have placed renewed focus on hygiene, food storage and regulatory compliance in Hyderabad's restaurant sector. Officials are expected to continue inspections as part of the enforcement drive, while establishments found violating food safety requirements may face further action under applicable regulations. The authority's ongoing checks are aimed at ensuring that restaurants maintain required standards and that food served to the public is safe and properly handled.
