Screams, Sealed Life Jackets: New Video of Jabalpur Boat Tragedy Shows Safety Lapses

Video exposes sealed life jackets and staff negligence in Bargi Dam cruise capsizing.

A new video from the Bargi Dam cruise tragedy has surfaced, capturing the horrifying final moments before the vessel capsized earlier this week. The footage is now being treated as an important piece of evidence, as it appears to support survivors’ allegations that several basic safety norms were ignored before and during the journey. Families of victims and members of the public have reacted with shock after watching scenes that show confusion, panic and a complete lack of preparedness in a life-threatening emergency.

The video reportedly shows passengers sitting inside the cruise boat as weather conditions worsen and water suddenly begins entering the vessel. What starts as an ordinary boat ride quickly turns into a nightmare within seconds. Laughter and casual conversation are replaced by screams as the boat begins to tilt violently. Passengers can be seen trying to steady themselves, hold on to nearby surfaces and protect children and family members while water rapidly floods the cabin area, creating chaos and fear among everyone on board.

One of the most alarming details visible in the footage is the apparent mishandling of life jackets. Cruise staff are said to have been seen trying to untie bundled life jackets only after the vessel had already begun sinking. Instead of being distributed in advance or kept ready for emergencies, the jackets were reportedly sealed and stored away. Many passengers, who were not already wearing any protective gear, were forced to rush toward the jackets in desperation while the boat was filling with water, costing valuable time when every second mattered.

The tragedy has triggered widespread anger and serious questions over whether the operator followed mandatory safety procedures before allowing passengers to board. Survivors have alleged that no proper warnings were issued despite poor weather conditions and that there was little guidance from staff once the emergency began. The emergence of this video is likely to intensify calls for accountability, with demands for authorities to identify negligence, punish those responsible and introduce stricter safety rules for tourism and boating operations across the state.

So far, nine bodies have been recovered while four people remain missing, with search and rescue teams continuing operations in and around the dam area. Officials are also conducting an investigation into how such a major disaster occurred and whether preventable lapses led to the loss of lives. As grieving families wait for answers and missing loved ones, the tragedy has become one of Madhya Pradesh’s most devastating tourism-related accidents in recent years.
