Scindia Predicts World Will Depend on India’s Digital Innovations

Minister hails India’s telecom leap at India Mobile Congress.

Union Minister of Communications and Northeast Development Jyotiraditya Scindia declared India the “digital flag bearer of the world” at the 9th India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025, heralding the nation’s transformation from a technology importer to a global innovator. Speaking at the event, co-organized by the Department of Telecommunications and the Cellular Operators Association of India, Scindia predicted, “The day is not far when the world will say it is dependent on India.” Held under the theme “Innovate to Transform,” IMC 2025, running until October 11, showcases India’s meteoric rise in telecom and digital prowess.

Scindia underscored India’s staggering growth: from 60 million broadband users in 2014 to 944 million internet subscribers today, with 1.2 billion mobile subscribers constituting 20% of the global total. “Mobile data costs have plummeted by 98% in 11 years, now at Rs 9.11 per GB, among the world’s lowest,” he noted, adding that 5G connectivity spans 99.9% of India’s districts. Once a luxury, digital access is now a cornerstone of daily life, driven by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 4D framework: Democracy, Demography, Digital-first approach, and Delivery.

The minister highlighted India’s ambition to lead the next frontier with the Bharat 6G Alliance, targeting 10% of global 6G patents. “India is no longer just a service nation but a product nation,” Scindia asserted, pointing to the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme’s impact: Rs 91,000 crore in new production, Rs 80,000 crore in exports, and 30,000 jobs created. He also celebrated India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), with 20 countries in talks to adopt its model, positioning India as a global template for digital governance.

Scindia projected India as the world’s largest digitally skilled workforce, urging innovators to “design here, solve here, scale for everywhere.” The IMC’s Startup World Cup, featuring 500 companies vying for funding from 16 top venture capitalists, underscores this entrepreneurial zeal. With India’s telecom sector setting global benchmarks and 6G standards on the horizon, Scindia’s vision is clear: India’s innovations are poised to transform the world, cementing its role as a digital superpower.
