Schools and Offices Shut After Delhi-NCR Downpour
Heavy rainfall cripples Gurugram, Delhi, and Noida brace for more.
A relentless downpour has brought Delhi-NCR to a standstill, with Gurugram bearing the brunt of the chaos. On Monday evening, a three-hour deluge dumped over 100 mm of rain, transforming major roads like Sohna Road and the Delhi-Jaipur highway into virtual rivers. Commuters faced nightmarish traffic jams stretching 7–8 kilometers, with some stranded for hours. Social media platform X buzzed with videos of endless vehicle queues, capturing the frustration of waterlogged residents.
The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in Gurugram issued urgent advisories, urging corporate offices and private institutions to shift to remote work on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Schools across the district have been directed to conduct online classes to ensure student safety. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has escalated concerns with an Orange Alert, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall throughout Tuesday, raising fears of further disruptions.
Haryana authorities have responded swiftly, ordering field officers to stay vigilant and remain at their posts until further notice. Meanwhile, Delhi and Noida are holding steady for now, with schools and offices remaining open. However, residents are cautioned to monitor weather updates closely and plan travel carefully, as the monsoon’s grip tightens.

The heavy rainfall has exposed infrastructure vulnerabilities, particularly in Gurugram, where poor drainage systems have worsened flooding. Commuters waded through knee-deep water, and vehicles crawled along inundated roads, highlighting the city’s unpreparedness for such intense weather events. Local authorities are now under pressure to address these issues as the monsoon season continues to wreak havoc.
For those in Delhi-NCR, the advice is clear: avoid non-essential travel, stay updated with IMD forecasts, and adhere to safety guidelines. As the region braces for more rain, the focus remains on minimizing disruptions and ensuring public safety in this unprecedented weather crisis.
