SC Directs CBI To File Status Report On 11 Manipur FIRs
Supreme Court orders CBI to expedite probe into 11 FIRs linked to Manipur violence.
The Supreme Court of India has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit a status report within two weeks on its probe into 11 FIRs related to the ethnic clashes in Manipur. The direction came during a hearing on petitions concerning the handling of violence that has rocked the northeastern state for months.
A bench of the apex court sought an update on the progress of investigations, including details of arrests, evidence collection and the overall trajectory of the cases transferred to the CBI. The court emphasised the need for an expeditious and impartial probe, given the gravity of the allegations and the continuing concerns over law and order in the state.
The 11 FIRs were among several cases handed over to the CBI amid allegations of inadequate local investigation and demands for an independent inquiry. The court has been closely monitoring developments in Manipur, where ethnic violence has led to loss of lives, displacement of thousands and widespread property damage.

During the proceedings, the bench also reviewed submissions regarding rehabilitation efforts and security measures undertaken by the state and central governments. Petitioners urged the court to ensure accountability and timely justice for victims, while government counsel assured full cooperation with the investigative process.
The Supreme Court’s directive underscores its continuing supervisory role in matters arising from the Manipur unrest. The CBI is now expected to file a comprehensive report detailing the current status of each case, which will be taken up for further consideration when the matter is heard next.
