Satya Niketan Building Collapse: Owner Hariram Gupta Detained In Rajasthan
Collapsed Satya Niketan building housed a boys’ paying guest accommodation.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited Satya Niketan on Monday to oversee the second day of search and rescue operations after a decades-old five-storey building collapsed in the densely populated locality. The building, which housed a boys’ paying guest accommodation, came down during repair work on Sunday, leaving seven people dead and several others injured.
Rescue teams have so far pulled 12 people out of the debris, of whom seven have died. Operations continued at the site as authorities searched through the rubble for anyone who may still be trapped. The collapse has raised concerns over the safety of ageing buildings in densely populated parts of the national capital, particularly structures undergoing repair or renovation.
Meanwhile, building owner Hariram Gupta was apprehended from Bhiwadi in Rajasthan around 25 hours after the collapse. An officer confirmed the development to news agency PTI, stating that Gupta had been taken into custody and that further examination was underway in connection with the case.

The incident occurred in Satya Niketan, a locality in southwest Delhi known for its large student population. The area is close to Delhi University’s South Campus and has numerous hostels, paying guest facilities and student accommodations, making it a busy residential zone with a high concentration of young people.
The collapsed structure was reportedly decades old and had five storeys. According to the available information, repair work was underway when the building collapsed on Sunday. Authorities are continuing rescue and relief operations while examining the circumstances surrounding the structural failure and determining whether safety procedures were followed during the repair work.
The deaths have brought renewed attention to building safety and maintenance in Delhi’s densely populated neighbourhoods. As rescue operations continue, authorities are expected to establish the circumstances that led to the collapse and examine the responsibility of those involved with the building and its repair work.
