Sansad Bhashini: AI Will Soon Revolutionize Indian Parliamentary Operations

The Lok Sabha took a monumental leap toward technological innovation today with the launch of "Sansad Bhashini," an AI-driven initiative designed to transform parliamentary operations.

The Lok Sabha Secretariat signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) to develop the Sansad AI solution, an event witnessed by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. This collaboration aims to harness artificial intelligence for multilingual support and streamlined legislative processes.

Sansad Bhashini will integrate the expertise of Bhashini, India’s AI language translation platform, with the vast parliamentary data repository. Key features include real-time transcription and interpretation of debates into various Indian languages, ensuring accessibility and linguistic diversity. The initiative will also translate legacy documents—debates, agenda files, and committee proceedings—into regional languages, preserving parliamentary heritage while making it widely available.

A standout component is the AI-powered chatbot for the Parliament website, enabling MPs and officials to instantly access procedural rules and historical data. "This will drastically reduce search time and improve efficiency," the Lok Sabha Secretariat stated, noting the chatbot’s ability to evolve through user interactions. Additionally, speech-to-text technology will provide automatic summaries of discussions, enhancing decision-making and record-keeping.

Union Minister Vaishnaw lauded the initiative, predicting it would position India as a leader in tech-driven governance. Speaker Birla echoed this optimism, emphasizing its role in fostering inclusivity. Sansad Bhashini marks a bold stride toward a digitally empowered, multilingual Parliament, blending tradition with cutting-edge innovation.
