Sanjeevani Healthcare Project To Roll Out Across Andhra Pradesh From January 1

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to implement the Sanjeevani healthcare programme across the state from January 1. The initiative, which includes digital health records and technology-driven healthcare services, has already been implemented in parts of Kuppam constituency and Chittoor district. Naidu called for the programme to be expanded statewide after reviewing the results achieved in these areas.

Officials presented a 90-day plan for the statewide rollout during a review meeting held at the Chief Minister's camp office. The plan includes a baseline study, development of digital infrastructure, training and certification of healthcare personnel, and integration with national and state-level portals. Medical staff across all 28 districts are also expected to undergo training as part of the expansion.

Naidu noted that families currently face substantial expenses on healthcare and education and said initiatives such as Sanjeevani could help reduce the financial burden. He directed Tata MD, an official partner in the programme, to focus on innovations that could strengthen healthcare delivery. The Chief Minister also stressed that medical services should be predictive, preventive, curative and cost-effective.

The government plans to incorporate artificial intelligence into the healthcare system, with an AI-driven platform being developed to support the process from screening and treatment to follow-up. Naidu also called for the use of digital tools while ensuring the confidentiality and security of health data. A dashboard is expected to monitor the programme, while health updates could be sent directly to people's mobile phones.

The Chief Minister also called for improvements in hospital services, including outsourced sanitation and other support functions. He directed officials to establish a system for replacing service providers that fail to meet required standards. Naidu further advocated integrating approaches such as Homoeopathy, Ayurveda, Yoga and Pranayama with modern medical services, while focusing on changes in dietary habits and public health awareness.

Officials reported positive outcomes from the programme's implementation in Chittoor, including 56 per cent of hypertension cases being brought under control and reduced severity in 16 per cent of diabetes cases. Primary healthcare utilisation also increased, while a survey found that 91 per cent of respondents developed a better understanding of their health after using Sanjeevani services. Naidu urged officials to make the statewide rollout successful and position Andhra Pradesh as a model for technology-enabled healthcare.
