Russian President Putin To Visit India For September BRICS Summit
Putin will attend the BRICS Summit in New Delhi months after his December 2025 India visit.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to visit India in September to attend the upcoming BRICS Summit in New Delhi, marking another high-level engagement between the two countries amid continuing strategic and diplomatic cooperation. According to a statement shared by the Russian Embassy in South Africa on social media platform X, Putin will participate in the summit on September 12 and 13.
The announcement cited Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov, who confirmed the Russian President’s participation in the multilateral gathering. India is set to host the annual BRICS Summit this year as the chair of the grouping, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa along with newly inducted member countries. The summit is expected to focus on economic cooperation, global governance reforms, trade partnerships, and geopolitical developments.
Putin’s upcoming trip will mark his second visit to India within a year, underlining the importance of India-Russia bilateral relations despite shifting global political dynamics. His last visit to New Delhi took place during the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit held in December 2025, where discussions centred on defence cooperation, energy ties, trade expansion, and strategic partnerships between the two nations.

The BRICS grouping has increasingly emerged as an important platform for cooperation among major emerging economies, particularly on issues related to global financial systems, development institutions, and multipolar diplomacy. India’s presidency of the bloc is expected to place emphasis on economic growth, technology collaboration, sustainable development, and strengthening cooperation among Global South nations.
Diplomatic observers believe Putin’s attendance at the summit will attract significant international attention given the current geopolitical climate and Russia’s evolving relations with Western countries. The summit is also expected to provide opportunities for bilateral meetings between participating world leaders, including discussions on trade, energy security, and regional stability.
Preparations for the BRICS Summit are currently underway in New Delhi, with India expected to host delegations from multiple member nations over the two-day event. Officials are likely to finalise agendas and bilateral engagements in the coming months as the summit approaches, with security and diplomatic coordination expected to be a major focus for the host country.
